Files description

Added by - - over 15 years ago

I would like to add comments / descriptions to the files under Files module,
in particulary to tie a File to the Issue (link to the issue). How can I do that?

Hi, in the file module it's not possible to have an relationship with an issue. You can just make an relationship to an version (Milestone?).
If you like to put an file to an issue you can add a file to a particular issue.

So no meta-data or description available for adding to a file?
I think this should be added. File without meta-data is quite meaningless.

You can always add an optional description to the file when uploading it. I am not sure but I guess it's even textilized, thus turning #123 to a link to issue 123.

I disagree :-) The "files-module" is imho meant to serve files which are probably "packaged deliverables" of the managed projects versions. Therefore the files are bound (and sorted) to the projects versions, showing the amount of downloads and it's MD5-hashes.

I agree with Mischa, Files are for deliverables or releases so they should be tied to a version. I use Files whenever I release a new packaged version of my software, e.g. Timesheet files

If you need more information tied to a file with a textilized description, use Documents instead.

But you could have several pre-configured deliverables. Or modules/plugins in addition to main product.
Then you would like to put some metainformation in their description.

IMHO, if you need "metainformations", they ought to be in the wiki, pointing to the Files documents.
