Redmine Reply to Author Email¶

A small Redmine plugin that sets the Reply-To header of Redmine notification e-mails to the e-mail address of the author.

Introduction¶

Redmine offers almost everything we need out of the box. We only had to extend it a little for our internal needs, and this plugin was the result.

Features¶

When someone creates or updates an issue, writes a comment or posts in a forum, the resulting notification e-mail gets that person's e-mail address as Reply-To. Recipients can simply hit Reply in their mail client to answer the author directly instead of the Redmine system address.

This only works if the author allows their e-mail address to be shown. In My account → Preferences, the option Hide my email address must be unchecked:

If the author hides their e-mail address, no Reply-To header is set.

Installation¶

1. Clone the plugin into the plugins directory of your Redmine installation. The directory name must be redmine_reply_to_author_email, as it has to match the plugin ID.
2. Restart Redmine.

cd /path/to/redmine/plugins
git clone https://github.com/ablida/redmine_reply_to_author_email.git

Alternatively, download the repository as a ZIP and extract it to plugins/redmine_reply_to_author_email.

Usage¶

No configuration is needed. After the restart, the plugin is active for all notification e-mails. Users who want replies to reach them directly only have to make sure their e-mail address is not hidden (see above).

Uninstallation¶

Remove the plugins/redmine_reply_to_author_email directory and restart Redmine.
