Raise the limit of attachments at once from 10 to 50 and make it configurable in configuration.yml

Description
Currently there is a hard limit of only 10 attachments per change of an issue. It would be nice if this was configurable or removed completely if possible.
I'm wondering if there was a specific reason why this limit was added in the first place.

Your syntax error indicates that there is some bad code on line 170. If you open firefox's inspector, select Debugger and find the attachments.js file. Look at line 170. Maybe you mistyped something, missed a parenthesis or bracket...

+1 for this feature.
It wouldn't be so bad if inline images didn't have to be "attachments" - many of our issues will have screenshots / captures to go along with them. I know we could "zip" and package them up, but it is useful to see them as inline images.

+1 we run into this issue all the time. Issues end up with lots of screen captures in them, so there are multiple edits required to add all the content.

Configurable attachments limit has been implemented in this plugin: http://www.redmine.org/plugins/that_attachments_limit
It works on Redmine 3.4 and Redmine 4.0 (and, maybe, others).

We run in this issue quite a lot. Especially with the DMSF-Plugin as we quite often upload more than 10 files. If you have 11 or 12 files you easily miss that only the first 10 files have been uploaded...

+1 for this feature. It is an impedement for some of our development work which frequently has >10 experimental results to be uploaded.
It would be great if the plugin would be upgraded to 5.x

I made some small changes to partially address #18555. This does not resolve the error message `max-number-of-files`, I am not confident on making that change.

A very old request from Redmine: Over 10 years (!) and the ticket still has the status "New".
I am starting a new attempt:
The limit should be adjusted so that more and larger files can be uploaded at the same time and the resulting ‘idle time’ or effort is reduced.
Suggestion:
1. The new limit for the number of files should be at least 40-50 (first priority, I consider this to be mandatory). This value can apparently not be set via the administration (hardcoded?). It requires a corresponding plugin ( That attachments limit).
Note: A: In principle, we do not want to use plugins. Reason: Dependence on the manufacturer. B: Plugins may not be developed further and are not compatible with the latest Redmine version.
2: The maximum file size should be doubled from 20MB to approx. 40MB (second priority, but very useful if even a ZIP file cannot be brought under 20MB).

Agreed, no idea why something this simple has had no traction. Patches are even available for the devs for years.

This can be set in the settings "Maximum attachment size" under the files tab. We have ours set to 1GB. Be warned if you are using a reverse proxy (apache, nginx, etc), you'll also need to update that to allow the bigger file size.

This problem is really annoying: in a workflow where a user attaches patches for review, it can happen that up to 50 patches are attached at the same time (if, for example, a generalized code refactoring activity is being carried out): this currently means receiving 5 emails and 5 messages in any chat connected to Redmine (e.g., MS Teams, Slack, etc.)...

I think I have a set of mods that addresses this problem. However, I can't generate the diffs easily because I'm running 5.1.9 that was not checked out using git and we have a few other mods. The current 5.1 version is 5.1.11, and I don't see a 5.1.9 branch in the repository. Can anyone point me to a 5.1.9 git I can clone?
In any case, I cloned a 5.1.11 and tweaked my modified files to only have the relevant changes and generated diffs from that; attached.
Let me know if this is useful or if I totally screwed things up.

Note that after you change the max number of files in Administration/Settings/Files, if you have an issue open in another tab you will need to reload that issue before the changes will take affect.

I have since learned the mapping of name_with_underscores to name-with-hyphens problem I had which is noted in a comment in public/javascripts/attachments.js is due to the JASONAPI standard. see:

The attached patch raises the maximum number of files that can be attached at once from 10 to 50. If necessary, the value can also be changed with a new option, max_attachments_at_once, in configuration.yml.
Since this issue was opened in 2014, users have reported that the limit of 10 is easy to reach, mainly because of screenshots. Redmine 4.1.0 made it even easier to reach by adding support for pasting screenshots from the clipboard (#3816): each pasted image counts toward the limit, which applies to the total number of files in the form.
There is no technical reason for the limit to be 10. Files are uploaded one by one via Ajax, with the number of simultaneous uploads limited by max_concurrent_ajax_uploads, and neither the server nor the REST API limits the number of attachments. Still, a limit is useful as a safeguard when many files are dropped or selected by mistake. I chose 50 because comments in this issue asked for at least 40 to 50 and described attaching up to 50 patches at once. With 50 files, it is also still practical to remove unwanted files from the form.
I used configuration.yml rather than Administration > Settings, because it already has a related option, max_concurrent_ajax_uploads. I would prefer not to show an option that most sites will never change on the settings page, and administrators might also mistake it for a limit on the total number of attachments, for example per issue.

Committed the patch in r25176.
The maximum number of files that can be attached at once with the attachment form has been raised from 10 to 50. The default limit of 50 can be changed with the max_attachments_at_once setting in config/configuration.yml.
